I am looking forward to a fun & educational week ahead with our President's reports all week, patriotic projects, Chinese New Year projects, and Valentine's Day on Friday!
Our President's report homework is due tomorrow, in the Blue Bags as always. Remember that you did not need to do a journal entry about your blue bag book this week since the children are already writing about the presidents. Our sharing this week will be to state the fact(s) about Lincoln, and the sentence(s) about George Washington that your children wrote on the back of the timelines. They will share these facts on their sharing day. I would like them to have each sentence memorized, but I expect that a few may need some prompting. There will be no homework this Wednesday due to the upcoming vacation.
This week's letter is Qq. The Alphafriend is Queenie Queen. We will introduce two new sight words, or and but, and we will review is and here. We will be working on our math topic on numbers to 20 for the next several weeks. Please continue reinforcing recognition of all numbers between 1 and 20, as well as reinforcing the sight words. This is the greatest "push" at this time! At the Spring conference, I will let you know how your child is doing toward meeting all the kindergarten standards. If you haven't had a chance to sign up yet, please click here.
Our art projects this week will center around Chinese New Year, President's Day and Valentine's Day. We will be learning more in class about both Lincoln and Washington as we have many interesting books on these great presidents.
On Monday, we have a special presentation on Tet and Chinese New Year with Hannie's parents and Aaron's grandmother. Thank you to these guest speakers for sharing a little about these holidays with our class!
We will celebrate Valentine's Day on Friday in class. Remember to only have your child sign the 24 valentines and leave the "To" box blank. This helps us save time during the distribution of valentines as it is less confusing for the children during the passing out process. Although this is not a formal party, we will be passing out valentines and having some valentine-themed activities. We will also have a Jamba-Juice Smoothie party on that day for having 100% participation in the walk-a-thon!
I hope you all have a great Superbowl Sunday and a fun week off next week!
