Week of 1/11

We had a great first week back! So many students seem to have blossomed over the break, and it is so exciting to see! We have a short week coming up, as there is no school on Friday the 15th due to a Professional Development Day. Also, for those of you who are not participating in the "Explore & Discover" program, your child will only have an 8:30 a.m. Zoom on Tuesday, followed by work in SeeSaw. There will be no small group or 11:00 meetings on 1/12, 1/19, 1/22, 1/26, and 1/29.

A Note About Martin Luther King Lessons
As we study MLK this week, we try to keep the focus on all his good work and the progress he helped make in equal rights. However, his assassination does come up in a couple of the books and videos that we will be watching. I wanted to make you aware of this so that you can be prepared for a discussion at home about this topic.

Special Activities at 11:00 Zoom:
This week, we will have two special activities at the 11:00 Zoom. On Wednesday the 13th, we will be doing a directed drawing together of Martin Luther King. Please have your child bring a piece of blank paper and a pencil & crayons for this lesson. On Thursday the 14th, we will be doing our second Art Vista lesson on horses. The art lesson about horses and various art elements will be pushed out in SeeSaw on Wednesday as one of the videos to view to prepare for the project the next day. Then on Thursday's 11:00 Zoom, please again have a piece of blank paper, a pencil, and crayons ready so that we can sketch horses together.

"Play & Explore Kindergarten" Program
For the 18 (wow!) students who are participating in the program, I will send another email with a few more details about how to get ready for Tuesday. Morning session will be from 9:00 to 11:00, and afternoon session will be from 12:00 to 2:00. Separate tubs and items will be used for morning class activities and afternoon class activities, and each child will have a completely personal pencil box in the classroom with all their supplies. Each item in the box (crayons, pencils, scissors, dry-erase marker, glue stick) is numbered so that we know exactly whose item is whose if it falls on the floor, etc. I am ready & SO excited!
