We are heading into another busy period as we start assessing 2nd trimester progress. I am going to try to assess as many students as I can in-person, but with only two days and many other (more fun) things to do, I'm not sure how many I'll get through. Therefore, I'd like everyone to sign up for a time for their child (no need for parents to be on the call), and if I happen to get through your child's assessment in-person, I'll just let you/your child know that they don't need to stay on the Zoom call.
We are also going to be doing math assessments during our small group math time this week. It is essential that children be on time & ready with their materials so that I can get these assessments done during our short Zoom window. Please have this page and this page ready for Monday, Wednesday & Thursday math groups. We may not get through both pages, so some children may need to finish at another math meeting or on their own. For both of these assessments, please be sure that your child uploads a picture of the assessment to SeeSaw on the day that they do it, and please don't have your child correct any errors. I cannot assess what I need to focus on in my teaching if I don't know what mistakes your child is making. Thank you for your help with this.

Activities at 11:00 Zoom:
This week, we will again have two special crafts at the 11:00 Zoom, in addition to a Cornerstone lesson on Wednesday's 11:00 Zoom. On Monday the 25th, we will be making a "snow child" project that is the last craft from the December bag-- it has a black piece of 9"X12" construction paper with other papers clipped to it. On Thursday the 28th it is the 100th day of school! We will have a pair of "100 glasses" in the pick-up on Tuesday that we will make together on the Thursday Zoom. We will also do a quick sharing of our 100 Day collections (see below).
Grasshopper T-shirt Day
Let's have another Grasshopper t-shirt day this Wednesday the 27th!
Office Hours
Due to student assessment, office hours are completely canceled for the next two weeks.
January Materials Pick-Up
Our next materials pick-up will be on Tuesday, January 26th, from 12:30 to 1:30. Children who attend the Discover & Explore program will receive their bags in class & will not have to return to school to pick up bags. Since I will be teaching the PM session of the Discover & Explore program between 12:30-1:00, please see Mrs. Arrieta to pick up your child's bag if you are going through the drive-through pick-up line. I will be collecting the following items at this pick-up (children who are in Discover & Play can bring these with them on Tuesday):
- any self-portraits you still have (December only and possibly November's, as January's won't be done until later in the week)
- any number writing assessments you still have (we didn't do one in December, so probably only November's, and some of you already turned that in)
100 Day
One of the activities in SeeSaw this Thursday will be counting out 100 objects. Please use anything you have in your home-- 100 Goldfish crackers, Legos, Cheerios, toothpicks, marshmallows, coins-- whatever you have. Please have your children count out the objects and if they'd like to share their collections, they can do that on the 11:00 Zoom as well.
Additional Explore & Discover Dates
As mentioned in an email last week, more dates have been added to the Explore & Discover program: 2/2, 2/5. 2/9, and 2/12. If you are already participating in the program, no further action is required (unless you wish to withdraw from the program). If you wish to join for the four dates in February, please email me so that I can send you the information and the link to the Google sign-up form. I have only heard from two families interested in joining in February, so if you are interested, please email me ASAP. Please enroll by this coming Wednesday the 27th if you'd like to join in February. I believe you will be hearing more news from Union School District this week about the reopening plan, so please be on the lookout for a time-sensitive email from USD.
Upcoming Art Vista Lesson
During the first week of February, we will have an Art Vista lesson on animal paintings, followed by an activity where children will make animals out of upcycled materials. Please start saving small boxes (cracker boxes, cookie boxes, cereal boxes, etc.), toilet paper tubes, paper towel tubes, and any other materials you think your child might need to create an upcycled animal.
