Week of 5/16

We are looking forward to showing off so much work for you in our room this Wednesday the 18th for Open House! Please drop by our classroom any time between 6:00 and 7:00 to have your child show you around our room and share many projects with you. This is a family event & your child's night to shine! Please join us!

Language Arts
This week we will ay sound, as in bay, say, and day. Our sight word this week, play, also has this sound.

Math
We continue to review all the concepts we've learned this year, with a focus on addition & subtraction fluency. We are ending the year with a great website, Happy Numbers, which will help children review math concepts in an engaging way.

Thank You!!
Last week was our last week of afternoon classroom centers. I'd like to thank all our center helpers, especially those who came every week when we were so limited on how many people we could have in the classroom. Classroom centers are a very busy time, and I truly couldn't have done many of the projects and activities we did this year without the help of all the parent volunteers. Thank you so much!!

STEAM (Helpers Needed)
Both this Wednesday and next Wednesday the 25th, we will head back to the Makerspace to choose a favorite activity to do again. We will put out Strawbees, the Rigamajig, Snap Circuits, and Hexbugs. If you are interested in helping, please see the Sign-Up Genius. I've added the dates there.

Kimochis
This week, your child learned about feeling proud and the Kimochis® kotowaza that accompanies pride: “Proud of me … proud of you.” This saying inspires and encourages children to feel pride in themselves as well as others. Young children want to be recognized and acknowledged for their accomplishments. The emotion of pride develops as children develop a clearer sense of self. This occurs over time between the ages of 3 and 5. Children will watch others and try tasks they see them doing. Children also begin to evaluate themselves against others and become more interested in how they are evaluated by others.1 Your child learned communication tools to both give and receive compliments as a way to feel pride and to celebrate the successes of others.

Last Art Vista
This Tuesday, we will have our last Art Vista lesson. We will be working on self-portraits. Thank you to Tiffany & Agnieszka for leading our art lessons this year.

Last Library
This week will be our last visit to the library. Please be sure to return your child's book this Wednesday. We will not check out a new book this week. Thank you to all our readers this year! We've had so much fun hearing the wide variety of stories!

**Children should return library books by Tuesday
